To understand the history of Fractal Antenna Systems, one must first know the history of its founder, Dr. Nathan Cohen.
Dr. Cohen has a rich background in both academia and the private sector as a physicist, radio astronomer and innovator. During his education he was privileged to study under some of the world’s foremost astrophysicists, including Frank Drake at Cornell. Later he went on to become a professor at Boston University.
His foundation in academia provided Dr. Cohen with the ideal combination of knowledge and skills required to explore the application of fractals to antennas and electronics.
In 1988 Dr. Cohen built the world’s first fractal element antenna. Using this first experiment as a springboard, he engaged in a period of intense “self education” in which he not only taught himself advanced antenna engineering, but also pioneered the field of fractal element antennas.
After building an impressive technology portfolio and proving that fractal antennas are more compact and powerful than their traditional brethren, in 1995 Dr. Cohen took the next step and co-founded Fractal Antenna Systems, Inc., to begin delivering the world’s first fractal-based commercial antenna solutions.
The company’s first years were dedicated to further research and development, during which Dr. Cohen secured patents that make Fractal Antenna Systems the primary source of fractal antennas and electronics. Today, Fractal Antenna Systems provides custom product and component development and design for customers, managing every step of the product development process, including:
Fractal Antenna’s proven solutions are in use in multiple commercial applications, ranging from data and wireless networks to telematics and RFID. The company’s fractal antennas have also been adopted by every branch of the U.S. military. In each and every application, Fractal Antenna’s products, components or designs meet or exceed design and performance expectations with powerful, compact, versatile and practical solutions.
